::PBA Version 2.0
Pacific Buddhist Academy Curriculum

The curriculum at Pacific Buddhist Academy fuses Buddhist values with a standards-based course of studies designed to equip youth to enroll and succeed at colleges anywhere in the country and abroad.

An extension of the system in use at Hongwanji Mission School for grades K-8, the curriculum is grounded in the values of compassion, understanding, interdependence and oneness with self, others and nature.

The Academy welcomes students of all faiths; conversion to Buddhism is not its aim.

The academically challenging coursework stimulates critical thinking and active exploration. Students are taught to go outside their familiar worlds to gain new awareness, make reasoned decisions and act on those decisions.

Core academic offerings include:

• English, Math and Science
• Social Studies
• Japanese Language
• Health and Fitness
• The Arts
• Buddhist Education
• Career and College Exploration
• Electives

A signature program is Peace Studies. Students acquire the knowledge and practice the skills necessary to reduce conflicts and prevent violence from the interpersonal to the international level.
